Philodendron sp. ‘El Choco Red’ is a species-form Philodendron associated with the Chocó region of Colombia, where it grows in the warm, humid forests of the region. It is recognized for its broad, heart-shaped leaves with a soft, velvety surface and prominent venation. New foliage emerges in rich coppery to reddish tones, often accompanied by warm brown veins, before gradually deepening to a darker green as the leaves mature. The contrast between the colorful new growth and mature velvety foliage is one of its most distinctive features.

This plant has a climbing growth habit with moderately spaced internodes and benefits from vertical support as it matures, allowing the leaves to increase in size and develop more fully. It performs best in bright, indirect light, warm stable temperatures, elevated humidity, and evenly moist but well-draining soil. Consistent moisture, good airflow, and adequate humidity support healthy root development and continued production of large, well-formed foliage.
