Passiflora trifasciata is a passionflower species native to the rainforest understory of Peru, where it grows along the shaded forest floor rather than climbing into the high canopy typical of many of its relatives. Its most distinctive trait is not variegation in the usual sense but structural iridescence: the leaf surface holds a faint blue green sheen that shifts with the angle of light, set against a mosaic of silver and deep burgundy pigmentation that follows the three main lobes of the leaf, the trait that gives the species its name. This coloration is believed to help the plant capture and use the limited light available on the forest floor, an adaptation shared by a handful of other understory species that rely on similar optical tricks rather than sheer leaf size to photosynthesize efficiently in low light. The undersides of the leaves carry a rich plum tone that deepens with maturity. Like other passionflowers, it climbs by way of slender coiling tendrils and will reward a trellis or support as it matures. Rare Plant Fairy grows this species in soil with bright indirect light and consistent humidity, conditions that echo its native habitat and keep the leaf coloration at its most vivid.

Pot Size 2.5" x 2.5"

Note

Highly variegated leaves are prone to browning and may be more vulnerable during the shipping process. Alocasia grow new leaves and drop older leaves more frequently than other plants.
