This is a cutting from Rare Plant Fairy's own mother Dark Lord, a variegated line we've sourced out of Thailand and have been propagating for a few years now. Dark Lord is a Philodendron cultivar known for foliage so dark it reads almost black in low light, a trait that comes from unusually high anthocyanin content layered over the green. On a variegated individual like this one, that dark pigment gets interrupted by sections of coral and salmon, and those pale sections are lacking chlorophyll the same way white variegation is on other aroids, it's just masked by pigment rather than showing up cream or white. The sectoring here tends to run in clean blocks along the veins rather than speckling through the leaf, which is part of what makes this pattern so photogenic and part of why it draws attention in a room full of green philodendrons.
Full-color variegation like Dark Lord doesn't occur or persist in the wild. It's maintained through deliberate propagation, cuttings taken from a mother plant that happens to throw this pattern reliably, which is exactly how we've built out our line. Finding a mother plant that carries variegation across all of its leaves, rather than just one or two, is uncommon, and this one has held that consistency across every cutting we've taken from it. It's a slow grower, so each new start takes patience, but the payoff is a plant that looks different from every angle you catch it at.
